Hi all

Do you have to use some kind of special drumstick (e.g. with a nylon tip or with a bigger tip) to avoid damaging the mesh head?

if you want to avoid damaging the mesh head its really all about how hard you hit the skin

I use nylon tips on my electronics, mesh or rubber heads. I was told about 10 years back, to do that by a person who owns a music store focuses on drums, bass and electric guitars. I use nylon, and wood on the acoustic heads. Just my .02

Thanks for the advice, I'll try out sticks with nylon tip just to be one the safe side.

Using nylon tips would make more sense as they are going to be less abrasive over time. Wood tips chip and fray and will damage the heads.

Ditto. I always use nylon tips on electronics.

how bout those zildjian vibe sticks - i tried them on my acoustic and they didn't help much, but i hear they really help on e-kits, esp. the rubber pads. anyone tried them?

I've heard mixed reviews on the Zildjian vibe sticks. I would also vote for the nylon on the mesh. Wood sticks will still get chipped up even when playing lightly on an e-kit and eventually that will mess up the mesh heads.
