Since "tuning" really isn't an issue when talking about eDrums, why then would one need to be concerned about edging a shell for the purpose of making a DIY eDrum - be it an acrylic shell, wood, pvc, etc.?

without edges, the head won't seat properly. you need edges, they just don't have to be good ones.

on my pintech I used to have, and the bass one, the metal is simple rounded over. One of them had some 'edge' to it, a metal burr. It started tearing up the mesh head quick. I filed it down.

While it could be true that good edges aren't important, I would think that good edges will do two things of benefit to e-drums: allow the head to seat properly (better tensioning) and probably allow the heads to last longer as well.

also, when building e-drums wouldn't you do everything possible to make them feel like real drums?

I think you would want rounded edges. They would not damage the heads and they would probably make the drums less loud.

I think you would want rounded edges.
That's what I'm doing on my e-snare project.
