Any Zendrummers out there?
I've owned one of these for about five years now. It is very cool, easy to play and such.
It beats lugging around a trap kit on small gigs.
Every once and a while a Zen body blank ends up on E-bay. I wonder how easy it would be to do a DIY version. It might be fun.

Hmmmm ... VERY interesting.
I have never seen/heard one used either - although it reminds me a bit of Bela fleck's "FutureMan's" Rhythm Stick. Sounds like it could be a very cool way for the otherwise "trapped" drummer to come out to front-stage for a little well-deserved center-attention time.

Inspiration
In 1991 David went to a Bela Fleck and the Flecktones concert and was amazed at the creativity and virtuosity of "Future Man" Roy Wooten playing his electronic drum device, the Drumitar. David was still transporting and maintaining a large electronic drumset and singing from behind it, so the new concept made too much sense not to pursue. Inspired to use his knowledge of MIDI and electronics, David made the first working prototype of the Zendrum. When he showed it to Kim, who is a master craftsman and woodcarver, the two friends began to work together and during the next two years shaped and refined the prototype into a real instrument, the Zendrum.

Interesting. I've always assumed futureman's synthax drumitar (spelling?) came after zendrum. Also, I always wanted to know his real name. Roy. He doesn't look like a Roy.
