you got two options drill it or take it to some one with a layth and take and inch off the cymbal

Once it starts cracking, it is done. Drilling may prolong it slightly, but it doesn't stop it. I have seen people cut chunks of of cymbals, but this totally hoses the sound. Lathing a cymbal can stop the crack, but it hoses up the sound too.

Yep, once it cracks it will die. Drilling will prolong death but it will happen. Taking a chunk out basically ruins it completly. I have a cherished Wuhan china that has a small crack and I drilled it. The crack hasn't gotten worse but I only use it for recording so it sees as little use as possible.

I had a friend years ago who's favorite cymbal was a small crash that had cracked and then been cut smaller to eliminate the crack. Yes it did sound different than it had before, but he got lucky and liked it just as well after the cut-down.

You never know 'til you try it.

What would be the best way to cut a cymbal down to a smaller size?

Well, if I remember correctly, he did it in metal shop at his school. I assume he used a lathe.
That was 20 years ago and I've since lost contact or I'd ask him.
