I am considering a 22" Saluda traditional dry mist ride. I am looking for a dark sounding ride with a dry, but well defined ping like the zildjian k-dark.
I like the fact the Saluda is 1/2 the price, and would like to try it.
Any comments on this model and similarities to Zildjian K?

Based on the overwhelmingly good word of mouth here, I have ordered one. $122. That is awesome!

If these are as good as the WOM, then they are the deal of the century!
1/2 price of most cymbals, 1/3 price of paiste.

Did you specify the sound you were looking for?
My Saluda sound like K's: Dark, semi dry, with some trashiness...just like I asked for.

Yep, I was looking for dark/dry with good ping. I need to get away from the primary hard/bright/endless ring rides.
The dark rides have FLAVOR!

yeah, she had a great bod after the implants in the late 80's. I have seen her lately. Fat and dumpy looking ...

I hear you. Keep in mind too dry sounds great by itself, but does not always "play well with others".... that is if "with others" are electric instruments at amplified volumes.
I A-B'd my Saluda next to all my other rides. It sounds alot like My K Custom Rides....more sustain that the Dry and WAY better than the K Ride, which is heavy and on the Rock side. It sits right in the middle, clear stick articulation with controllable wash and lots of that hand hammered "flavor."The Saluda bell owns the K Customs whose bells sound like anvils: "clang!" The Saluda bell is more like the bell on my circa 1971 Avedis Rock Ride.
All Mists have a touch of this "flavor." That's a characteristic hand crafted cymbals. My 14" dark thin crash sounds closest to an A Custom at a lower pitch and only a slight taste of grit.

Brigitte Neilsen and FlavaFlav from Public Enemy were gettin' "jiggy wid it" on MTV's Surreal Life. She "had" Flavor!

Good to see the forum back up, where it belongs. I think Flav is a drummer. Isn't he? I recall seeing him on a set back in the 80's or 90's.

He jammed out on a Vdrums kit on the show, and rapped on top of it. Not too bad if you asked me!!! That fool cracks me up!!!!

Actually Surreal life was on VH-1 but back on topic. Which saluda hi-hats would equal A/Z hats? I love the sounds of those so much.

SALUDA IN DA HOUSE! (My house to be exact)
My ride arrived. It has a big, expansive voice. It is defiantely darker and mellower than my sabian aa ride.
The bell is toned down, and the wash is slower.
The cymbal has almost a "distant" effect. It's like you are hearing a ride from a distance away.
I attribute this to the way the overtones build.
I can definately recommend this ride for jazz, funk and other types of music that you want a drier, and mellower ping.
Verdict: worth every penny, and then some!

Is this your first Saluda?
It's good (but no surprise) to hear that you like it.
You'll be able to get a lot of sound out that big chunk of pie plate!

Here is a point to ponder:
Beginner stamped cymbals >cough< crap >cough<
like Stagg, zildjian zxt/zbt, sabian b8
Cost about the same as Saludas.
Friends don't let freinds buy crap cymbals! Tell the newbies out there GET REAL for the same price as the trash-can lids that students have to buy!
Lemme see.. I got the money for a Yugo or a Porsche...hmmm...decisions ...decisions...

Hey Scott, just make sure when the other cymbals are delivered by parachute no one else gets beheaded.

The Saluda delivery pilots are trained to air-drop on target. They know how to compensate for drift, unlike those inept UPS guys...:X

I just got my hat's today and I ordered them monday. They came really quick. I got 14 SSX heavy bottom and Mist 14" medium in brillant finish top. They sound great I though they where to ringy at first but it's just the room where my kit is. They room echo's when you talk in their. LOL I will take a pic of them when I get a chance. I can't figure out where the pm's are on this new format, are they fixing it or what?
thanks,
CDO

I tested them out alittle yesterday. They sound real nice also. They have a nice tight chick sound and the stick response when their close is tight and when half open theiy sizzle very well. Therse are my fvery first Saluda's and I am glad i bought them. I might get more soon.
