OK the title of this category is drum yard sale and SWAP MEET!

So, to spice things up, lets do some swappin'...

I got a Pearl Masters Studio (birch) snare, 6.5x14 in Platinum Mist with Die-cast hoops, mint shape with new Evans Genera batter head.

Make me an offer, or better yet, what the he11 are you trying to get rid of?

I'd take another snare, keller shells, who gives a poop, let me know!

well...I have a few keller maple shells, some with finish on them. I have a stainless steel shell I bought from jason merrick and haven't done anything with it. I have some stave maple hoops that haven't been made into hoops yet. they're just circles (or cirples for you drumrap folks). I have a few custom snare drums too but only 1 I would consider adding to a trade. a big old bag of brand new vater sticks, like 10 pairs unused. they're a little big for my liking. a reso and batter attack bozzio 14". a set of grover jazz dark 15 strand wires for a 14" snare. bunch of counter hoops all different sizes....

So which one snare that you have would you consider getting rid of? (BTW i dislike legend lugs, i likey da snare with the single point lugs though)

Keller shells, what sizes?

Stave sirkles, are they maple?

what thickness steel shell?

Patpimp, sorry, I'm working on 7 snare drums right now & I'm sure none will be done sooner than a month from now. I'll check then if you're interested, but I understand if you need to take someone else up on an offer sooner. I'd like to have that snare mainly cause it matches my kit, although I probably wouldn't be using it for gigs, I'll be using one of my custom burl snares.

Hey T-Bone, I'm in no rush...

A month or two is fine... just let me know if you are really serious though.

Plus, I dont really want the cash from this drum, I'd rather get a drum for a drum. (The only thing i dont go for is legend hardware!)

This snare with a single-ply coated just sounds sooooo good... (makes me wonder why i would get rid of it!) I let a buddy play a few sets with it before i changed the head, and it was great to stand back and hear it. With the Genera head (single ply with muffling ring), its a little drier... just right for some, maybe just a smidge too dry for me.

I would love a set of stanbridge hoops, but...

I dont have any use for 13" hoops really, just spent 80 bucks to put die-cast on my only 13", and i love 'em.

Thanks though!

hey Patpimp,
I'm still working on snares keeping in mind a trade. What type lugs do you like/prefer & do you like chrome or brass better? I'm just asking cause I'm still in the process of buying hardware for these guys. Most likely what I'll have to offer is possibly a Madrona burl on a 6 or 6.5" Keller shell (really great looking) with possibly offset Adonis lugs, nickel strainer, regular flanged hoops, either 45/45 or 45/roundover edges. If that makes you drool, let me know.

patpimp
10-30-2003, 02:27 PM
Hey tbone, yes, makes me drool ?:o-

go for it, i love 6 and 6.5 depth snares...

I'd say i like chrome hardware, but the hardware needs to match the finish on the drum, so you decide, i'd love to have a drum with adonis lugs, never seen them in person.

Ooo Ooo, what about doing it on a thin shell? like a 6, maybe eight ply, with 45/ roundover edges? or whatever

PS- what would you charge me to veneer a whole kit, if i had kellers (sizes 8-10-12-14-20) and my veneer sent to you?

tbone
10-30-2003, 04:24 PM
I don't know if I'm really ready to do a whole kit yet; besides, I doubt I really have time right now. As far as what to charge, I have no clue, but it's really time consuming. Hey, you gotta good lookin girfriend, wife or daughter? ;D-
Kidding aside, (who's kidding?), I'm curious as to what you think a good price would be for doing that - not that I'm considering it. (And send pics of the girlfriend, wife, or daughter!)

Just looked up the madrone burl, very pretty...

DO you know of anyone that has a vacuum setup for doing veneering? I dont mind veneering a snare, but i think i'll get in over my head trying to do bigger toms and a kick. You're right, lots of labor to veneer.

tbone
10-30-2003, 07:27 PM
Yeah, I've got the vacuum set up, butt my vacuum bag's not big enough for a bass drum. I plan on doing a whole kit for myself possibly after the 1st of the year, at which time I'll get a bigger vacuum bag. After that, I might be ibterested in doing someones else's kit. It's still a lot of work with the vacuum system, but it does a better job than other ways of doing it.
So since I won't be doing your kit, tell me what you think a fair price would be to do a kit? I might have to eventually have a price in mind when asked sometime in the future.
Ya know, Mike Hargis at Century drums is set up with the vacuum system & has some experience - I met him & saw his stuff in Denver & it was mouth watering.

Hmmm. i bet I'm like way off with this price, but I'll give it a shot...

I would veneer a snare shell for $50 plus the cost of the veneer...

So:

14 snare: $50
10" tom: $40
12" tom: $50
14" tom: $60
22" bass: $100

Cost of a good sheet of veneer to do this many drums: $100

Total: apprx. $400.

Just as a comparision, if you think you could veneer a kit for this price, compare to what others are charging for paint jobs, like DPC... i think he listed a 5pc kit around $440 (which is worth every penny probably).

The customer could finish, or you could throw in a quick satin tung oil for not much more money.

Of course this price would be what i would the average customer, I hope to find someone who can be a pal and use my veneer and do it for like half.
