Anyone here playing 15" hats or 24" rides? If so, what are you using & opinions. Also feel free to list any crashes bigger than 20's. I'm kinda looking around at what's out there.

I just traded a pair of 15''2002 sound edge hats for standard Sabian 14's. I love! Bonhams ride sound and didnt Cozy use a 24 ride?. Ive been pondering getting a 24 ride for about a hundred years now. Itll be interesting to read comments from the big users. Ian Paice uses huge crash cymbals live and i really like his sound!.

Hello there,

I just bought this ride off ebay, a 24, and it crashes like hell...
I have to put some moongel on the ride to calm the wash down. It wobbles like hell too. Its an old A from the early 60s, and it sounds like a K.

I use 13 inch HH and a 18 inch crash with this set up, perfect for some jazz. Get a 24, it something weird and different...

I like it, it is my first 24 and I don't regret it...

Fender's 27" Saluda china has to be mentioned in this post even though it's not a crash, hh or ride. That's big.

I used to have both.

I found that 15" hi-hats were just too slow for me. They lacked crispness also.

I had a 24' (heavy or ping ride I forget) but it was also too slow and gong-like.

I set my ride cutoff at 22" and my hi-hats at 14" max. I am considering 13" Sabian paragon hats. I have a 20" AA ride that sounds great. My crashes are 16, 16 and 17" , again because of speed vs volume. I think Nick Menza used 20" crash cymbals.

The problem with HUGE and heavy is the limited application. Usually to LOUD, not about finesse at all...
