I'd try a medium on the bottom and a thin crash on the top.

Try a Rude Paiste on the bottom. I have used two Rude splashes for hi-hats and it worked very well. Just make sure your bottom cymbal is thicker than the top and it should work. I know Steve Jordan used a pair of very large hi-hats for a while.

Yep.. Steve's setup:
17" Signature Hi-Hat (Prototype)
20" Signature Full Crash
22" Signature Rough Ride
i will try that if the spalshes ever come in and i can get my hands on some,i did find the guy with the other part of the highhat,so i was going to sell it to him for $125 but he ran out of money :(

I had a set of 8" hi-hats, with a heavier 8" Paiste bell on bottom and an 8" AA splash on top...
Hi hats arent anything special... as long as you understand how they pair hi-hats, you can match any cymbals together to make them. I go with woodrow, stick a Paiste Rude under that thing! Most times the bottom cymbal is quite heavy, and the Rude would fit the bill... or any heavy rock cymbal.

I have the other half of your set! Some clown sold me a "Sixteen inch A. Zildjian crash" on eBay, but when I got it it was obviously a hi-hat cymbal. Either you need to a) sell me your "16 cymbal, or b) buy mine. I think I paid around $70 for it, thinking it was a crash, but I'd be willing to come down, even though I still need to buy a crash (unless you happen to have an extra you'd be willing to trade.) I live in Panama, so I rely on people coming and going to carry out such commerce. It's waaaaay too thick to use as a crash, but as a hi hat cymbal it'll do you proud. Just say the word...

Speaking of 16's, I just scored a pair of pre-serial Formula 602 16" hats. They're pretty damn sweet. Didn't even know they made 602 hats at that size, but....they did!

Paiste makes a 30". Big huge thing. I saw one at a drum shop in St. Paul (Ellis, for what it's worth), and got a chance to tap it - it actually sounded pretty reasonable, and not too gongy. I would buy one if I had the cash.
