3 splashes??? That's what I'm looking at also.
Question. Are those china's mounted bell-up? I've got one that way, but wondering about the plastic washer, felts etc...a way to get them to 'set' better.

Is that all you got? Then I suffer a very bad case of cymbalitis.
http://picserver.zipzap.nl/albums/arjen/HPIM0578.jpg
When this pic was made I didn't have my 20" Ponthus Crashride yet, and I'm still waiting for my 6" Custom Series Bell to arrive.
http://picserver.zipzap.nl/albums/arjen/HPIM0831.jpg
This is my huge setup, for gigs and rehearsals I make a selection out of my cymbals. This is what I own right now:
6" Masterwork Custom Series Splash
6" Paiste Accent (this one will be replaced by a 6" Custom Series Bell, which will be made especially for me :D )
8" Masterwork Custom Series Splash
10" Masterwork Pontus Series Splash
8" Masterwork Custom Series Hihats (8" Bell + 8" Splash)
13" Masterwork Custom Series Hihats
13” Masterwork Ponthus Series Hihats
14” Masterwork Custom Series Hihats
16" Masterwork Custom Series Dark Crash
17" Masterwork Custom Series Thin Crash
18" Masterwork Custom Series Paper Thin Crash
19" Masterwork Ponthus Series China
20" Masterwork Custom Series Medium Ride
20" Masterwork Legend Series Ride
20” Masterwork Ponthus Series Crashride with sizzles
22” Masterwork Jazz Master Crashride
And I'm afraid there's more to come. :? Sorry can't help it....

rh, i have always placed my chinas that way, (edges down) and i never have had a problem with how they sit. i just use some nice big felts on both sides and tightened up enough for the cymbal to move but not go everywhere.
i know thats not much help..sorry

my new drum room in the house is huge! I'll post pics ASAP

Ray, I have always mounted my china's upside down (bell of cymbal on bottom). I have always used cymbal springs with my china's, so that's how I mount them. They have always "sat" just fine for me but using 2 thick felts also seems like the trick.

I also have always used chinas inverted (although I don't have one in my setup right now). I always found they were best when they were flat, that is, parallel to the ground. They still lean more to one side generally but you can keep them looser that way. I like to keep all cymbals flat and loose, but that's just me.

great, thanks for all the tips. You will note in the opening picture, the far china is inverted and the close one is bell up....I've got some cymbal springs and will experiment with that and different felts.
My only concern, not acurate word, is that the china when inverted, wobbles around...mostly due to the plastic 'base' under the felt. I wondered if they make a plastic or metal base that would be inverted? Heck, a LARGE washer and I'll cup it somehow.....

I agree with bob that cymbal springs are great on Chinas.

In my homemade rack I have room for more cymbals. I use 4 Chinas on my left, I want 2 more so I can call it my "great wall of China's". I use larger threaded shafts and bigger bolts, really locks them in. I have no splash cymbals at all, just a few paiste accents and a couple of 10in sawblades. I guess I should try some splashes.

Buzin is Masterwork. Yoshi Buzin is now the US guy for Masterwork after a big upheaval with Ronn Dunnett & Greg Nickel. They were the US reps and in fact were the ones responsible for introducing/bringing Masterwork to to North America. Masterwork pretty much screwed those guys. He has a shop here in SoCal.
I have a Buzin labeled 8" Custom splash and a set of MW 14" Smyrna hats that just sound great. Nice cymbals to be sure.

Bob, did you strip off that Buzin logo? that thing is HUGE!!!
Yes, I heard some from IndoorStorm on MW, some from Greg, some from Ronn. Sounded pretty screwed up. But also sounded like Buzin was part of the issues. didn't you and I converse about it also?? Can't remember....I'm old.
I wasn't sure about the sound of the Buzin stuff. Thanks for the confirmation that they sound good. Have you played MW combared to Buzin?

It's simple, Buzin aren't different from MW, so there isn't much to compare. And MW sounding screwed up???? Can't believe it. Maybe the sound is not your taste, but that doesn't make them bad.
... Masterwork pretty much screwed those guys. ...
Then you heard the story just from one side.

What are the prices like on those masterworks cymbals, compared to like a K Zildjian?
rhjanes
09-17-2004, 12:02 PM
about equal price, I think. I like the sound of MW better than any other cymbal. Just me. However, MW is next to impossible to find here in the US now. Buzin is now the importer and has there name on them. Seems from other threads and this one, the Buzin have the MW sound...since they are MW under the cover.

Hi Ray, no I didn't take the Buzin logo off. Not too hip on it but whatever. Supposedly, Yoshi either has MW make the cymbals to his specs or he goes to the factory & hand picks a bunch. I really don't know if either is true but I would be inclined to believe the latter. I tend to think they just send him a bunch of stuff with the Buzin logo added.
The sound of the Buzin stuff will be the same as a Masterwork as it is a Masterwork with the Buzin logo on it. On the cymbals you can still see the MW stamp on them. The one that's imbossed into the metal.
The whole MW, Buzin, Nickel, Dunnett, etc. deal and what all went down...we'll never know for sure. It's between all those parties.
rhjanes
09-17-2004, 02:17 PM
MW stamp is in the Buzin? neat....I bet that is old stock then. I would suspect that Buzin stops that after they run out of MW stamped ones.
Good to know. I just got my last two spashes...11 cymbals up and a big ol' china on one of those DW stands I got from you. Didn't really need the second china...But Greg cut me a deal I couldn't refuse....

RJ, Thanks and no worries...I found them here in the states.
Which one has the first logo?? On the far right? Mounted off the end of the rack? It is mounted upside down. The china on the left side, next to it, is mounted the other way.
Also, my 18 inch Custom has no Masterworks except the stamp and under side. It seems to be a darker color of metal also. Makes me wonder about it. It is different than the rest.
Ray

...it was an additional logo at the first series - it is the silouette of cymbalsmith Mustafa Er hammering a cymbal.
Ray, I guess I have to update your list at the Masterwork players!?

Masterworks are no longer distributed in the USA.....or Canada....
It's like dealing with the black market...but well worth it..
Buzin is now the importer and distriburtor, and they have their name on them, but as has been reported, the MW stamp is in the metal with the Buzin emblem screened over the metal.
Here is who used to be a dealer
Indoorstorm (sold out over the summer, not carring Buzin)
Greg Nickel of Nickel drum works. (sold out about 2 months back....I think I came close to buying him out!)
Ronn Dunnett. He and greg were the distributors, I think. Ronn was sold out before Greg
Donn Bennet up in Washington had a few left about a month back (I got my last two splashes).
After that???? all gone??? Head to Buzin, I guess.

Me & Waco went into Drum Connection (Buzin) last Sunday and they had a crap load and I mean a crap load of Masterwork & Buzin cymbals. The most cymbals I have ever seen in one place. You could go into the cymbal room & be in there for hours. No lies...

RJ and Mic,
Well, at practice the other night, I realised that about half my customs have the silloutte. Some are signed, some not etc..
I might post each cymbal with the markings on them. could one or both of you help identify them? As far as 'early' or 'rare' or what ever. I just enjoy playing them. I was crashing over the splashes the other night, my bass player was standing there just grinning at me....He loves the sound of the MW's.

The shop that carries the Buzin's (like you said...stupid name & gay logo but still MW's) still has original Masterwork cymbals too. I don't know if these are holdovers or he gets new stock. I think new stock as I had visited the store once and they had a few MW's there. The next time I went in...a crapload. Dare I say more than 100...no ****. And that doesn't count the plethora of Buzins! Waco will verify this as he was with me that day. The most cymbals I have ever seen in one place. I'm still amazed thinking about it.
