I just picked up a Paiste 22in 2002 ride, circa 197?. (props to Kanbasher for the hookup :D )

I got bored today and decided to give it a good cleaning. It has that green'ish funk'a'dation build up on it. I was hoping to return it to its shimmering glory, but the Paiste cymbal cleaner cant handle the level of goop on it. I'm sure its fine for keeping a newer cymbal clean, but this one needs something more.

Suggestions anyone?

Groove Juice is some pretty harsh stuff, try that on your gunk.

I've used the Sabian stuff. I know its pretty harsh. I forgot about Groove Juice. I wish I had more gunked up cymbals to try all this stuff out on.

I would say keep using the Paiste cleaner. It's just going to take a couple of attemps & some elbow grease. I don't think you'll get that new look out of it though regardless of the cleaner used.

That was my initial plan, but I was going through quite a lot of it and thought there may be a better solution.

I have noticed that Paiste cymbal cleaner dries quick while you use it. This is why I do steps cleaning, rinsing in the shower, cleaning, rinsing... that works for me.

When you clean old cymbals, they usually don't have the protecting laquar anymore, so you can clean them shinny, but 24h later they are not shinny anymore, because oxidation started.

I dont know much on the Sabians,But I use the "Magic Eraser" on my Z's/it cleans them right up,and it lasts.Logos are not for ever tho, unless you are carefull and go around the logos.but then you get those little areas that just dont look right.grab one next time you are at the super market, try it in a little area,,just might work for you, helps to wet it just a bit.alot more afordable then those polising compounds .and you can throw it in a sandwich bag in your cymbal case when gigging.

Who cares about logos...DON'T BE A SLAVE TO THE MAN! WIPE THOSE OFF!

I think it looks cool anyway..plus it'll give you something to talk about if a hot chick comes up to you and says "What kind of cymbals are those?" Then you can tell her and proceed to seduce her. If the logos were on there then you wouldn't have gotten her to talk to you. SEe? My logic is, as always, correct.

Oh yeah...GROOVE JUICE!!

Panda, your logic is always on time :D ..so ,where are these hot chicks that are intereted in what kind of cymbals you use.I have not even met a girl who would know the difference, with logos or not.

Yeah, I havent met too many hotties that would know or care what kind of cymbals I'm playing. But ya just never know!
I was hoping I could preserve the classic black lable 2002 logo, but its pretty well faded already.
Funny thing is, I tried to clean my Signature ride and the Paiste cleaner didnt do so hot on that one either. Lots of elbow grease with this stuff.

Paiste cymbal cleaner is probably the least abrasive on the market and for a good reason. It has to do with the coating that Paiste puts on their cymbals. Their polish will preserve this coating from coming off the longest. So, you either have to stay up on your cymbal claening or your gonna be doin' some scrubbin'.
