I have been looking on ebay for cracked cymbals after i more or less succesfully cut down my first cymbal that i got from my drum teacher. I figure that i should be able to pick up some cymbals for pretty cheap. I am thinking no more than five bucks. I mean they are cracked cymbals for goodness sakes. People are paying like 30 or 40 bucks for these cymbals. And shipping is 10 to 30 bucks. yes people are charging 30 bucks to send cymbals. I mean i don't know maybe it really is that costly but dam.
my question is Are there really that many people that cut down cracked cymbals or do they actually think they can buy a cracked cymbal and not make the crack any bigger by playing on it. I know they can drill at the end of the crack but i heard that that is a pretty temporary fix and that cutting it down is the way to go.
What is going on on ebay?

Anything over $15 for shipping a cymbal is the seller trying to get more money to cover their Ebay costs. I think most buy a cracked cymbal to use as a practice cymbal. Not a bad idea if the poorer sound quality doesn't bother you. You could always try drilling it to slow the crack down but it will never solve it completly.

I recently bought a set of Sound Formula Sound Edge hi hats for $35. I got them specificly for the bottom cymbal as the top is cracked. I have a couple of tops that'll work, so for me it was a great deal.

thin hi hat cymbals can also somewhat work and small crashes. Someone had a 14inch sabian pro sonix bottom hat on a crash cymbal in the cymbal testing room at west coast drum. I was impressed by such a small crash i check what it was and it was surely enough a bottom hi hat cymbal.

Thats another way to score. Sometimes on ebay people mispell the name of the brand they are selling in the title. There can be some good deal had by that.

I dont know what it is about cracked cymbals that people pay more than 30 for. i would just use them for practice cymbals. I don't think many people buy them to cut them down.
