 WOOOOOW  , my highschool just got a 40" zildjian gong. That the same size as our bass drum! It is gigantic!!! I hardly hit it, and it exploded w/ sound! It almost felt like the building was going to fall down. And that was not even a powerfull hit. Our director got it to replace a broken 30" World Percussion gong, and this is a 100% better upgrade! YAY FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS! I think most of our percussion equipment is better than some colleges! If any of you need a gong, id say get a zildjian (even though i dont like most of their cymbals).

Nice. We're still dealing with our Wuhan gong. However, It still gets the job done.

The interesting thing is that the 40" gong is NOT made by Zildjian, but imported from China! Whether it is made by Wuhan, made in Wuhan Provence, or made in come other area of China, is unknown, but it is essentially a Wuhan Chau gong.

that's interesting minimalist. The school I teach percussion for will be in the market for a new gong or to for next fall. We have matching 32" Zildjian gongs but one of them cracked. I'm pushing for a bigger one too. I;d also like to get a couple wuhan plate gonges for a wash of sound they can create.

Currently Zildjian does not make gongs. All the ones they sell (with the Zildjian name on them) are made in China and imported. Zildjian used to make a variety of gongs, like the Turkish style, which was flat, had a turned over edge, and a hole in the center! They also made a very funky Gamelan style gong that had a large cup/boss and looked almost like a cymbal turned on it's side. I'll post photos if I can find them in my file.
Zildjian has just come out with a new 20X24 Gong Sheet which looks like Sabian's flat bronze Thunder Sheet, except it has a cup/boss in the middle.
Speaking of Sabian, their large Chinese Gongs are also imported from China and branded with the Sabian logo, while the Zodiac and Symphonic gongs are made by Sabian in their factory.
