It's not often that I take offense at something written by a music critic - most of them are, in my experience, miserably failed musicians and equally dismal writers - but this, which came attached to a post I received this morning, struck me as being exceptionally head-up-arse...

That Led Zeppelin made no attempt to disguise their own influences is no secret; in fact, they routinely went out of their way to promote those from whom they themselves drew inspiration. The same most certainly cannot be said for the likes of Elvis Presley.

Who do these pretentious wankers think they are...?!?

Incidentally, Happy 58th Birthday, Robert!!:-)

I guess there's no escaping the fact that some people are just inherently critical.

I think it's essentially true that nearly all songs written borrow from elements of previoulsy written songs - read: "influence" -but, I guess if that's where someone feels they must start to take apart someone's work, so be it. I wonder what cities and communities would look like if people weren't permitted to follow previous design elements involved in building houses?

It seems like these guys are willing to give minimal positive comment, but the feedback from people in general is definitely something quite different.

Who really cares if these guys don't like the songs/arrangements? It kinda seems to me like the ones they tear apart the most are the ones I enjoy the most (take LZ4/zoso - or "untitled" as they put it) I didn't see any mention of honeydrippers (which I wasn't fond of) maybe that'e the stuff they did like?
