I went to this concert last night at the Rose Garden in Portland. First tour date. Overall it was a crazy awesome show.

The Mars Volta were insane! There was so much going on at all times with them it was just the loudest performance I've ever heard. Their drummer is one talented guy. I could hear a ton of latin style rhythms in his playing. It was pretty mind boggling to me. But the thing is, I couldn't make out one single word from the vocals. I pretty much just heard wails. I thought it was cool that they had so many other instruments too. One guy played the soprano sax, tenor sax, and flute. All in all, a little overwhelming but still incredible IMO.

And now for my favorite band of all time! WOW! At first when I saw Chad's drums, I'm like, sweet, he has orange drums! But when they all came on they turned yellow which was really cool. Must be that lighting system. I read something about that on here before. Love those lights! That was the coolest looking set I've ever seen! And the actual performance. BEST SHOW EVER! They play together so amazingly it was really cool to witness their musicianship. Long set too. Like 2 hours. Chad's drum solo was incredible too! I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers!

Just thought I might share to all those who dig the Chili Peppers. After seeing a show like this, it's very inspiring to me cause now I know what to work on.

Chad is a great drummer. Overall, that is one of the best rhythm sections going, as Flea is a MONSTER MONSTER bass player. In my opinion, among the best rock bass players of all time.

Never was a Kiedis fan. Good performer, good front man, but what they refer to as his "madcap raps" to me serves as a stark reminder why most white people should not rap in the first place.

there is, however, something to be said for a group that comes out with some of its best stuff literally decades after their beginning.
