based on designs by DrummerDan, JLee, and that one dude with the plans for a spring mounted bridge... tested with a millivolt meter and I get some kind of current, so I'm hoping it will trigger. Next step, off to see the Wiz about a brain.

Thanks Dan and Lee for all of your posts! This was actually pretty easy once I understood what to do. I built the whole thing in an afternoon, including two trips to Ace Hardware.

Next step is to replace the springs with a heavier dutier type, and to get some wire connecter crimp thingies.

You'll notice I had to gouge out the plies on the inside of this drum to mount the flush-mounted stereo jack... it wasn't long enough to thread the bolt on the outside. I was surprised to realize how thick the shells are on this old TAMA kit... so a lesson for me is to use thin shells!

anyway, i'll post more pics and words later, once i have the thing tested, triggering, and the other drums built. This will be a 4 piece kit mounted to regular stands... for now.

Nicely done.

Glad it worked out for you.

Looking good! Please don't hesitate to ask any questions from me regarding your design. I've been through several drums and so has Jon. We have the bumps and bruises to prove it!!

where did you pick up that C channel for the piezo mount bar?
and
are the rubber spacers really needed? can i just went that plate onto the C channel?

I am not sure if the rubber spaces are ABSOLUTELY needed, but I used them on mine to prevent "false triggering". I figured that if I raised the piezo platform off of the crossbar, it would be a lot less likely to happen. Factor in the vibration dampening effect of rubber, and I felt that was added insurance.

I do have to say .....no false triggering issues at all. Though I cannot say for certain that is why.

well being on a limited scedule of only 30 build days left, i think ill just mount with the spacers...better safe then sorry, if it false driggers i have to cut the welds then redo it all and that wastes time and money.....

C channel I got at a local hardware store (Dorn's True Value in Madison)... works well, easy to cut and drill.

As to your other question, I don't really know. I followed the design I saw posted in other places. I think the rubber spacers help avoid accidental triggering by isolating the piezo platform from other vibrations that could produce pulse in the piezo.
