OK, first a confession...I have NO knowledge of EDrums. I bought a used Yamaha kit for my son. The kick seems to trigger sporadically at best. Sometimes no trigger, sometimes very week.
Where do I begin to find the problem?

unplug it. take a long instrument cable. unplug one of the good pads. plug that good pads cable, in the brain, into the input for the kik. hit that drum pad and now the kik sound sould trigger. You just verified that the brain and it's settings are good.
now, plug the kik cable into a different input on the brain. try the kik, it should trigger what ever you pluged it into, say a cymbal. work OK? maybe the cable is bad. not? then the kik trigger is bad, loose something.
you bought this all used? First thing, figure out how to reset the brain back to factory! there is a way. Who know's how screwed up the brain is (programming wise).
reset to factory. then, switch things around to isolate cables, and pads and inputs to see what is failing. Pad, cable, brain.

Is this a DTXpress kit? I used to have one of them. On the first and second generation kit, the kick trigger was notorious for dropping triggers. They redesigned it the on the third (actually marketed as the second generation kit DTXpressII). You can tell if this is what you have by the shape of the trigger. It has a small square pad on it, not the 5" round pad of the DTXpressII.
If that's what you have, you can try a couple things. First, reset the module to it's factory default settings. Sometimes people tweak them too much and they just don't perform well anymore. Starting from scratch is the best way to fix things sometime. Next, try a different beater on your pedal. I had luck with different beaters sometimes when mine started doing that. There is also an adjustment knob on the trigger itself. Try adjusting it.
If you can't get it to perform consistantly, then your only hope is to probably get a different kick trigger. After all, Yamaha redesigned the thing on the DTXpressII. You can plug in any kick trigger to it. You can pick up the redesigned Yamaha for about $70 here (http://shop.drumbalaya.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.61/.f).

What Ray says.
The factory reset is the first thing to do. That may clear up a ton of problems.
