View Full Version : Where to Find Wiring Diagrams that Make Sense?

I am entering the home stretch on the edrums. (Actually I should have been done a long time ago, I just started messing around with other drum and non-drum related projects). The bridges are all cut and drilled, the platforms are mounted to the crossbars and shells, and the non-electronic work is all done. Now I am at the stage where I need to figure out how to wire these piezos to the jacks. I saw a diagram on drumbalaya, but it makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

I know that the piezos will be affixed to the rubber washers I have installed on the platforms with the use of contact cement. I also know that the brass side is the side to glue. From there, I don't know too much else.

For example, I know I need speaker wire to "extend" the leads coming off the piezo, but am not sure if it matters which side to solder to which side, or if speaker wire is "neutral". No laughter from the more informed, please.

Also, for the snare rim trigger, I am going to mount a second piezo against the side of the shell. Do I need anything between the shell and the piezo?

Thanks in advance.

I think someone had a wireing diagram on here....
On the metal shells (such as Pintech), they are glued right to the shell. Usually on the right side....I think....so a right handed person, when doing a woody type move, it would pick it up.....dang...I make no sense!!!

I ran a search before posting and the resulting diagram that did come up was the one I was referring to. It makes very little sense to me.

Actually, here is the thread.

Maybe the diagram will be more clear to you than it is to me.

yeah...OK....IGNORE the yellow lines!!! (But they do show that you can reverse the wires and it still works).

Head trigger: Center wire to the TIP on the female jack. outer wire to the sleeve
Rim Trigger: Center wirre to the RING on the female jack. Outer wire to the sleeve.
Done. 3 solder points on the female jacke. Use a stereo plug. OR, use two mono jacks and then wire center of trigger to tip and ring of trigger to sleeve (2 wires).

Ignore the yellow lines and it is a good diagram.
