Allright, I'm a little bit of the newb when it comes to E-Drums and wanted to know if someone could lend me a hand. I wanted to know if I am able to turn my acoustic set into an electric kit that would be somewhat silent, although I still want to be able to play my kit as acoustic. I have heard of these "Acoustic Trigger" and wondered if that would do me any good and also, if I do set these Acoustic Triggers up would I just plug all the patch cords from the triggers into a mixer then the mixer to speakers or headphones?
Thanks for the help
Not that I am an expert by any means but,
1) Your drum kit would need to be outfitted with mesh heads to be substantially more quiet. While triggers are used all the time to access sounds above and beyond the acoustic sounds your kit makes, any time you strike the head you will also get that sound as well.
2) You would need a module, or brain, to convert the signal that is coming from the triggers. A mixer, I don't know about - I guess it depends on what else is going on onstage.

Ditto.
Generally, it's kinda tough to have both in one kit unless you want to use triggers, mesh haeds and a module and then switch to regular heads and remove the triggers. Could be kind of a hassle switching back and forth. Of course, you can use the triggers on regular heads but you still need a module. Do a search on modules to find out more info.
Or, build a new ekit!!!!

These foam cones I see people putting inside there drums... this wont stop the sound of the drum, you will still hear the hit. It not, what if I were to put these cones on a catch, similer to a snare catch that would drop the cone. Ideas?
What would be a reasonable e-kit for under 1500 canadian? Or if anyone is selling a used kit?
The foam cones are not there to deaden the sound like a dampener would, but merely transmit the signal created by the stick hitting the head to the piezo that lies underneath it. It is made of foam (or rubber) because that is a surface that is pliable enough to not get destroyed by the stick impact, quiet enough to add any additional noise, and dense enough so that the signal does not get lost in between the head and the piezo.
If you were to put the cone on a catch (like a snare) all that would do is remove the ability to trigger the piezo. Therefore, you would end up with a practice pad set if you were to use mesh heads, and a regular acoustic set if you were to use standard heads.
