I am certain that I am not alone in saying that some of the most valuable and inspiring ways of learning how to DIY is seeing progression pics of the process of building drums. In the case of DIY E-Drums, it's certainly no different.
For those of you who are currently building your DIY E-Kits, PLEASE post some pictures of your progress.
Even if you think the raw shells and scattered pieces look horrible, chances are that many of us will find the information and pics very helpful in seeing how things come along toward the final finished project.
So, let's see those WIP photos !!! :D

I have no problem posting as I go along. I guess, contrary to what you wrote, that I felt that a lot of the process would be too mundane to have value to others but I suppose that if they don't find it of value they can always leaf forward.
Over the weekend I will likely be finished marking and drilling the shells and jacks. All of them are taped for this. Also, I probably will start the preliminary fitting of the brdiges.
While I am at it, I have already realized one thing. If you are creating your own edrums it is unlikely (to me, anyway) that the Roland cones will be usable. I know that in my own case the bridges are probably going to be situated too close to the drum head for the cone not to protrude too far up and choke some of the action out of the head. So, I intend to probably use the method described previously about making your own out of silicon rubber, and just making them shorter and perhaps less conical.
Off topic, but Congratulations on Troy Brown's decision, by the way.

Hehehe - Yeah, that was a close one, huh? ;)
On the issue of the foam cone . . . .
Couldn't you cut down the Roland cones to better suit your needs? I would think you could cut some of the base off to shorten the cone. Otherwise, perhaps you might want to re-measure the distance of your bridge in the shell from the rim. You could try measuring the distance on an actual Roland V-Drum at your local GC or other drum store.

You are right on both accounts - I am pretty sure I can shorten the cone by cutting off some of the base, and I could conceivably change the distance from the bridge to the head.
However, in the case of the latter, I now have things laid out where I can just use pre-fabbed parts I bought at the hardware store (L brackets, metal straps) that will not necessitate much modification. The L brackets will mount right up to the lug holes, meaning that I won't really need extra holes in any of the six lug drum shells ( on the 8" tom I have, I plan on just using contact cement to mount the bridge to the shell).
If I were to adjust the bridge to a level where there is no corresponding place to mount the L bracket to the lug, then I would have to figure something else out. Since I don't think that a slightly shortened cone, or a pre-fabbed one of a little lesser height, will have an adverse effect on the triggering, I think it is easier to adjust the height of the cone, as opposed to the bridge.

Sounds like a good idea . . . I don't think it makes much difference the amount you will have to adjust the cone for triggering purposes.

Tom,
I am going to be posting a blog later today with pictures (if they work). It's my edrum project that I just started. Like you said, it may seem pretty mundane during the beginning process, but there's probably someone out there that's seeing this for the first time. I know I had a first time and I learned tons seeing how it's done.

Heres my progress so far. The drums are wired but I need to get heads and cones still. The module is an Alesis D4. The shells are a hi-gloss poly, the stripes done with black dye. The lugs are from a Pearl Forum and Export and the bigger tom is oiled on the inside so it looks darker. Sizes are 10x4 and 12x5.5. Im hopefully going to get another 12 for the snare and a 14 for the kick.

Cool. I am just starting a new one tonight, I have to make the snare bed, drill the holes, sand the sucker and do a maloof oil finish on it, and apply one of those new paint masks dave fender made for me for my badge. Ive been trying different tecniques with how to get the paint mask on there and make it stay with oil. Ill try to document it from start to finish. Im going to be doing the snare bed using only my bare hands, and 100 grit sandpaper. Oh boy! This is going to be fun!!

why are you putting a snare bed on an electric drum?

Tom, when are you going to start building your set?
What ?? . . . What was that ??? ;)
As soon as I am able to procure the supplies I need . . . unfortunately, no definitive time table.
